Mary ah me gentle MaryA
Can it be you're lying thereB
Pale and still and cold as marbleC
You that was so young and fairB
-
Seemeth it as yesterevenD
When the golden autumn smiledE
On our meeting gentle MaryA
You were then a very childE
-
Busy fingers flitting footstepsF
Never resting all day longG
Shy and bashful and the sweet voiceH
Ever breaking into songG
-
Always gentle kind and thoughtfulC
Blameless and so free from artI
'Twas no wonder one so lovelyA
Found a place within my heartI
-
You while life was in its spring timeJ
Made the Scripture Mary's choiceH
Jesus saw you loved you called youK
And you listened to His voiceH
-
Ever patient and rejoicingL
Shielded thus from unseen harmM
On you journeyed safely leaningL
On an everlasting armM
-
Three short years have not yet passed usN
Flitting rapidly awayO
Since we shared in the rejoicingL
On your happy bridal dayO
-
He the lover of your childhoodP
Won a bride both good and fairB
Three short years have not yet passed usN
Mary dear and now you're thereB
-
Well may he grow sick with weepingL
And with sore heart mourn his lossQ
Sadly look on those two babiesR
Left so early motherlessS
-
Not for thee we weep my darlingL
An eternal gain is thineD
We weep because we dearly loved theeA
And for those you left behindT
