We honour Brother JonathanA
For what he has done and daredB
Nobly and firmly he hath stoodC
His freeborn rights to guardD
-
And when we see him go aheadE
We are not with envy vexedF
We wish him all prosperityG
Yet will not be annexedF
-
We know he has much moral forceH
Much that is good and greatI
Much enterprise and energyG
Which we would imitateI
-
But there's upon his scutcheon stainsJ
Which we lament to seeG
And will not share will not annexK
Our soil and air are freeG
-
And far more glorious is the flagL
Which o'er the Briton wavesM
Than that whose stars of freedom shineN
Upon the stripes of slavesM
-
We love our Queen we love our lawsO
We feel that we are freeG
As independently we sitP
Each 'neath his maple treeG
-
Serene while over other landsQ
Rolls revolution's stormR
Where they can't speak their grievancesS
Dare not demand reformR
-
We can as freeborn subjects makeT
Our wants and wishes knownU
Our voices move the parliamentV
And vibrate to the throneU
-
We're Britons and as such we'll notW
For annexation sueX
Our prayer is still God save the QueenY
And bless our country tooX
