WALTER AND FREDDIEA
-
-
From morn to eve from evening unto morningB
I mourn and cannot restC
So mourns the mother bird when home returningB
She finds an empty nestC
-
I mourn the little children of my dwellingB
That are forever goneD
Sorrows that mothers feel my heart is swellingB
And so I make my moanE
-
One little blossom on my bosom fadedF
And passed from me awayG
But near my door the drooping willows shadedH
My little boys at playG
-
My boys that came with flying feet to meet meA
And questions wondrous wiseI
And bits of news which they had brought to greet meA
And see my glad surpriseI
-
Bitter for sweet no human hand can alterJ
Nor bid one sorrow passK
With sudden stroke our darling little WalterJ
Was laid beneath the grassK
-
Ah then it was to me an added sorrowL
To hear his brother moanE
Where's little Walter will he come to morrowL
I cannot play aloneE
-
The summons for the child had come alreadyA
Which said I must resignM
The best beloved the precious little FreddieA
To other arms than mineM
-
How still and lone are the familiar placesN
Where little pattering feetO
Made music for me and I saw bright facesN
Dimple with laughter sweetO
-
My arms are empty that woold fain be foldingB
My lost ones to my breastC
But well I know the Father's face beholdingB
They are forever blestC
-
From Christ's dear words my bleeding heart would gatherJ
At length submissive graceP
He says that in the kingdom of His FatherJ
They still behold His faceP
-
In the bright garden of the Lord they're stayingB
Amid the angels fairQ
And heavenly whispers to my heart are sayingB
Look up your treasure's thereQ
