ISABELLA STEWARTA
-
-
Heart of mine by thy quick beatingB
Thou knowest Isabel is nearC
And the gladness of the greetingB
Dims my eye with rapture's tearD
Heart of mine each beat will tellE
How I love young IsabelE
-
When I first beheld the maidenF
So fair to see so sweet to blessG
I a stranger sorrow ladenF
Arrested by her lovelinessG
Then I thought some hand would setH
On that brow a coronetH
-
She had grace all hearts beguilingB
She had the wealth of silken hairD
And sweet lips half proud half smilingB
Neck of snow and bosom fairD
And each eye a sapphire gemI
For a monarch's diademI
-
Oh she was peerless in her beautyJ
Like the fair moon she walked aloneK
And loving her was but a dutyJ
A spell her loveliness had thrownK
And I thought that I could traceG
Erin's pencil on her faceG
-
With the fervour of my nationF
I worshipped her as months went byL
She was the one constellationF
In my cheerless skyL
Though on me there never fellE
One kind glance from IsabelE
-
Heart of mine we love we love herM
She is still our lady brightN
Fairest of them all we prove herM
Queen of beauty as her rightN
And in simple verse we tellE
The praises of fair IsabelE
