Forsaken Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABB CDCEE AFAFF AGAGG HIHII AJABK ALALL MNMNN OBOBB

Beside the open window she is lyingA
Through which comes softly in the balmy airB
And fans her wasted cheek but slowly dyingA
She seeth not that autumn's finger fairB
Tinges the golden landscape everywhereB
-
She seeth not the glory of the maplesC
That in their crimson robes surround her homeD
Nor the rich red of the ripe clustering applesC
In the old orchard where can never comeE
Her flying feet to stoop and gather someE
-
That is her home where in life's young May morningA
She careless sung the joyful hours awayF
A happy hearted child to whom no warningA
Came of the future shipwreck by the wayF
Or of the worshipped idol turned to clayF
-
The place has passed to strangers unregrettingA
She looks upon the home no longer hersG
Of all the happy past she's unforgettingA
But deeper anguish now her bosom stirsG
The sorrow that can find no comfortersG
-
Father and mother lie beneath the grassesH
That lonely wave within the churchyard gloomI
And the sad wind is wailing as it passesH
Asking the dead to hasten and make roomI
For her that's slowly sinking to the tombI
-
Seeing as if she saw not one sore longingA
Is she awake to as she lieth hereJ
Dead to regretful thoughts that round are throngingA
All too absorbed to shed repenting tearB
Or look into the future drawing nearK
-
She hath lost all the keen desire of livingA
The power to grieve over a vanished nameL
She thinks one thought poor child her heart forgivingA
All of her wrongs all of her suffered shameL
And has no power left with which to blameL
-
Never again shall hope with her awakenM
For all hope buried in one small grave liesN
But her heart longs that he who has forsakenM
Should look once more with kindness in her eyesN
And take her poor forgiveness ere she diesN
-
So in a calm that hopes for no assistanceO
With longings that are lost in empty airB
Her dying eyes are fixed upon the distanceO
Lest he should come upon her unawareB
He cometh not she whispers in despairB
