Freedom Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BB CC DD E FF GG DD

Oft through my native land I roved beforeA
But never such a cheerful spirit boreA
-
When on its mother's breast a child I spyB
Hope in my inmost heart doth secret cryB
-
'Boy thou art born within a favoring timeC
Thine eyes shall glad escape old sights of crimeC
-
Free as a child thou can'st prove all and beD
The forger sole of thine own destinyD
-
Peasant remain as to thy father givenE
Or like the eagle swing thyself to heaven '-
-
Castles in air I build Man's spirit opesF
To many ways to frustrate all my hopesF
-
Though serfdom's sad conditions left behindG
Yet there be countless snares of varied kindG
-
Well Although the people soon may rend theeD
Let me oh Freedom a welcome send theeD
