The Prophets Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFEF FFFF FFFG FFFF FHFI

There are the modern prophets hereA
Though altars totally are feltB
Their eyes are very deep and clearC
In them the flame of future setD
-
For them the calls of fame are alienE
They re pressed by mass and depth of wordsF
All they are frightened pale and sullenE
In tombs of stony abodesF
-
And sometimes in the fits of sadnessF
A prophet just repelled by usF
Rise up to skies his look of greatnessF
The look of clear and beaming eyesF
-
He says that he s in bonds of madnessF
But that his soul s a light for usF
That he has seen in depths of sadnessF
The shining face of Jesus ChristG
-
The dreams of Lord have many facesF
Kind is a hand of him who givesF
Not just the one like him in grace isF
And as a knight of kindness livesF
-
He says that World is not such fierceF
That he s a prince of Future DawnH
But just the towers black spiritsF
Listen to him with mock and scornI
