Possum Crossing Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGHCI JKL MNOP QRSDTGUVW

Backing out the drivewayA
the car lights cast an eerie glowB
in the morning fog centeringC
on movement in the rain slick streetD
-
Hitting brakes I anticipate a squirrel or a cat or sometimesE
a little raccoonF
I once braked for a blind little mole who try though he didG
could not escape the cat toying with his lifeH
Mother to be possum occasionally lopes home beingC
naturally slow her condition makes her even more gingerI
-
We need a sign POSSUM CROSSING to warn coffee gurgling neighborsJ
we share the streets with more than trucks and vans andK
railroad crossingsL
-
All birds being the living kin of dinosaursM
think themselves invincible and pay no heedN
to the rolling wheels while they dineO
on an unlucky rabbitP
-
I hit brakes for the flutter of the lights hoping it's not a deerQ
or a skunk or a groundhogR
coffee splashes over the cup which I quickly put away from meS
and into the empty passenger seatD
I lookT
relieved and exasperatedG
to discover I have just missed a big wet leafU
struggling to lift itself into the windV
and liveW
