Unseen Spirits Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

The shadows lay along BroadwayA
'T was near the twilight tideB
And slowly there a lady fairC
Was walking in her prideB
Alone walked she but viewlesslyD
Walked spirits at her sideB
-
Peace charmed the street beneath her feetE
And Honor charmed the airC
And all astir looked kind on herF
And called her good as fairC
For all God ever gave to herF
She kept with chary careC
-
She kept with care her beauties rareC
From lovers warm and trueG
For her heart was cold to all but goldH
And the rich came not to wooG
But honored well are charms to sellD
If priests the selling doG
-
Now walking there was one more fairC
A slight girl lily paleD
And she had unseen companyI
To make the spirit quailD
'Twixt Want and Scorn she walked forlornJ
And nothing could availD
-
No mercy now can clear her browK
For this world's peace to prayA
For as love's wild prayer dissolved in airC
Her woman's heart gave wayA
But the sin forgiven by Christ in heavenL
By man is cursed alwayA
