Pass thou on for the vow is saidA
That is never brokenB
The hand of blessing hath trembling laidC
On snowy forehead and simple braidC
And the word is spokenB
By lips that never their words betray'dC
-
Pass thou on for thy human allD
Is richly givenB
And the voice that claim'd its holy thrallD
Must be sweeter for life than music's fallD
And this side HeavenB
Thy lip may never that trust recalD
-
Pass thou on yet many an eyeE
Will droop and glistenB
And the hushing heart in vain will tryE
To still its pulse as thy step goes byE
And we vainly listenB
For thy voice of witching melodyF
-
Pass thou on yet a sister's toneG
In its sweetness lingersH
Like some twin echo sent back aloneG
Or the bird's soft note when its mate hath flownG
And a sister's fingersH
Will again o'er the thrilling harp be thrownG
-
And our eyes will rest on their foreheads fairI
And our hearts awakenB
Whenever we come where their voices areJ
But oh we shall think how musical wereK
Ere of thee forsakenB
The mingled voices we listed thereI
-
Pass on there is not of our blessings oneB
That may not perishL
Like visiting angels whose errand is doneB
They are never at rest till their home is wonB
And we may not cherishL
The beautiful gift of thy light Pass onM
