The Serenade Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMA NOPQRSOTU

Innocent dreams be thine The silver nightA
Is a fit curtain for thy lovely sleepB
The stars keep watch above thee and the moonC
Sits like a brooding spirit up in HeavenD
Ruling the night's deep influences and lifeE
Hath a hushed pulse and the suspended leavesF
Sleep with their whisperings as if the dewG
Were a soft finger on the lip of soundH
Innocent dreams be thine thy heart sends upI
Its thoughts of purity like pearly bellsJ
Rising in crystal fountains and the sinK
That thou hast seen by day will like a shadeL
Pass from thy memory as if the pureM
Had an unconscious ministry by nightA
-
Midnight and now for music Would I wereN
A sound that I might steal upon thy dreamsO
And like the breathing of my flute distilP
Sweetly upon thy senses Softly boyQ
Breathe the low cadences as if the wordsR
Fainted upon thy lip I would not breakS
Her slumber quite but only as she dreamsO
Witch the lull'd sense till she believes she hearsT
Celestial melodyU
