January 1, 1828 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPGQRS CTUVWXY

Fleetly hath passed the year The seasons cameA
Duly as they are wont the gentle SpringB
And the deliscious Summer and the coolC
Rich Autumn with the nodding of the grainD
And Winter like and old and hoary manE
Frosty and stiff and are so chronicledF
We have read gladness in the new green leafG
And in the first blown violets we have drunkH
Cool water from the rock and in the shadeI
Sunk to the noontide slumber we have pluck'dJ
The mellow fruitage of the bending treeK
And girded to our pleasant wanderingsL
When the cool wind came freshly from the hillsM
And when the tinting of the Autumn leavesN
Had faded from its glory we have satO
By the good fires of Winter and rejoicedP
Over the fulness of the gathered sheafG
'God hath been very good ' 'Tis He whose handQ
Moulded the sunny hills and hollow'd outR
The shelter of the valleys and doth keepS
The fountains in their secret places coolC
And it is he who leadeth up the sunT
And ordereth the starry influencesU
And tempereth the keenness of the frostV
And therefore in the plenty of the feastW
And in the lifting of the cup let HimX
Have praises for the well completed yearY
