Dedication Hymn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDEE FFGG HHII

The perfect world by Adam trodA
Was the first temple built by GodA
His fiat laid the corner stoneB
And heav'd its pillars one by oneC
-
He hung its starry roof on highD
The broad illimitable skyD
He spread its pavement green and brightE
And curtain'd it with morning lightE
-
The mountains in their places stoodF
The sea the sky and all was goodF
And when its first pure praises rangG
The morning stars together sangG
-
Lord 'tis not ours to make the seaH
And earth and sky a house for theeH
But in thy sight our off'ring standsI
A humbler temple made with handsI
