-
Come out love the night is enchantingB
The moon hangs just over BroadwayC
The stars are all lighted and pantingB
Hot weather up there I dare sayC
'Tis seldom that coolness enticesC
And love is no better for chillingB
But come up to Thompson's for icesC
And cool your warm heart for a shillingB
-
What perfume comes balmily o'er usC
Mint juleps from City HotelD
A loafer is smoking before usC
A nasty cigar by the smellD
Oh Woman thou secret past knowingB
Like lilachs that grow by the wallE
You breathe every air that is goingB
Yet gather but sweetness from allE
-
On on by St Paul's and the AstorF
Religion seems very ill plann'dG
For one day we list to the pastorF
For six days we list to the bandG
The sermon may dwell on the futureF
The organ your pulses may calmH
When pest that remember'd cachuchaI
Upsets both the sermon and psalmJ
-
Oh pity the love that must utterF
While goes a swift omnibus byK
Though sweet is I scream when the flutterF
Of fans shows thermometers highK
But if what I bawl or I mutterF
Falls into your ear but to dieK
Oh the dew that falls into the gutterF
Is not more unhappy than IK
