| I have found violets April hath come on | E |
| And the cool winds feel softer and the rain | F |
| Falls in the beaded drops of summer time | G |
| You may hear birds at morning and at eve | H |
| The tame dove lingers till the twilight falls | I |
| Cooing upon the eaves and drawing in | J |
| His beautiful bright neck and from the hills | K |
| A murmur like the hoarseness of the sea | L |
| Tells the release of waters and the earth | D |
| Sends up a pleasant smell and the dry leaves | M |
| Are lifted by the grass and so I know | N |
| That Nature with her delicate ear hath heard | O |
| The dropping of the velvet foot of Spring | P |
| Smell of my violets I found them where | Q |
| The liquid South stole o'er them on a bank | R |
| That lean'd to running water There's to me | L |
| A daintiness about these early flowers | S |
| That touches me like poetry They blow | N |
| With such a simple loveliness among | T |
| The common herbs of pasture and breathe out | U |
| Their lives so unobtrusively like hearts | V |
| Whose beatings are too gentle for the world | W |
| I love to go in the capricious days | X |
| Of April and hunt violets when the rain | F |
| Is in the blue cups trembling and they nod | Y |
| So gracefully to the kisses of the wind | Z |
| It may be deem'd unmanly but the wise | A2 |
| Read nature like the manuscript of heaven | C |
| And call the flowers its poetry Go out | U |
| Ye spirits of habitual unrest | B2 |
| And read it when the fever of the world | W |
| Hath made your hearts impatient and if life | C2 |
| Hath yet one spring unpoison'd it will be | L |
| Like a beguiling music to its flow | N |
| And you will no more wonder that I love | D2 |
| To hunt for violets in the April time | G |
