And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward and Susanna and many others who ministered unto him of their substance Luke Mark John Matthew Luke JohnA
-
-
Those women who their Christ and LordB
Aided by gentle ministryC
Have gained their race a rich rewardB
Treasured in sacred historyC
-
Joanna is unknown at courtD
Although entitled to be thereE
The record of her life's reportD
In fadeless glory has its shareE
-
Susanna's name is intertwinedF
A gem as sparkling and as clearG
As those with which it is enshrinedF
And this is all we know of herH
-
And those whose names have not been givenI
Are now in realms of light and loveJ
Praising him mid the choirs of heavenI
Crowned with his joy and peace and loveJ
-
Mary of Magdala was broughtK
From mysteries strange and dark and drearH
To heights with joy and gladness fraughtK
She radiates a luster clearH
-
Those chimes from Bethany will ringL
With power that will not cannot dieM
Martha's and Mary's names will singL
Long as the flitting centuries flyM
-
That spikenard which 'twas wholly meetN
Mary should pour upon his headO
Has filled with fragrance rare and sweetN
Succeeding ages as they've fledO
-
And when a critic standing nearH
Censured her act misunderstoodP
Christ spoke so that the world might hearH
He said She hath done what she couldP
-
This her memorial while the sunI
Traverses the blue dome of heavenI
Fulfilling while time's cycles runI
Christ's prophecy which then was givenI
-
Unto the end these faithful fewQ
Regardless of all pain and lossR
Did what their hearts and hands could doQ
Though bowed with wonder at the crossR
-
Such love they could not understandS
Such love unto his latest breathT
That love had our redemption plannedS
Both in his life and in his deathT
-
They haunt the tomb in which he layU
Grief stricken desolate and loneV
But Magdalene at break of dayU
Found that her precious charge was goneW
-
Two angels said Why weepest thouX
The angels knew ere they inquiredY
They knew her heart could triumph nowX
These sinless ones by love inspiredY
-
She weeping told her loss and woeZ
Then answered thus a questioner nearH
Sir if thou dost his refuge knowZ
Tell me I seek him vainly hereH
-
Mary She listened to her nameA2
Uttered by Christ her risen LordB
Master her trembling lips exclaimA2
Then wondered worshipped and adoredB
-
Her joy is ours Oh may we seeC
That joy more plainly every dayU
Christ lives and loves eternallyC
Swift feet such tidings should conveyU
-
Eternal life and heavenly restB2
He purchased by death's agonyC
That whosoever will be blestB2
With glorious immortalityC
-
May we our sisters of the pastC2
In life and character revereH
Like them be faithful to the lastC2
Like them be loving and sincereH
-
First must the gospel plan of loveJ
To every land and tribe be givenI
Ere He'll return who from aboveJ
Is God's best gift to earth from heavenI
