Here helms and swords are made of chalicesB
The blood of Christ is sold so much the quartC
His cross and thorns are spears and shields and shortC
Must be the time ere even his patience ceaseB
Nay let him come no more to raise the feesB
Of this foul sacrilege beyond reportC
For Rome still flays and sells him at the courtC
Where paths are closed to virtue's fair increaseB
Now were fit time for me to scrape a treasureD
Seeing that work and gain are gone while heE
Who wears the robe is my Medusa stillF
God welcomes poverty perchance with pleasureD
But of that better life what hope have weE
When the blessed banner leads to nought but illF
