Love's Argument With Reason Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BABAB BAAAAAAA

La ragion meco si lamentaA
-
-
Reason laments and grieves full sore with meB
The while I hope by loving to be blestA
With precepts sound and true philosophyB
My shame she quickens thus within my breastA
'What else but death will that sun deal to theeB
Nor like the phoenix in her flaming nest '-
Yet nought avails this wise moralityB
No hand can save a suicide confessedA
I know my doom the truth I apprehendA
But on the other side my traitorous heartA
Slays me whene'er to wisdom's words I bendA
Between two deaths my lady stands apartA
This death I dread that none can comprehendA
In this suspense body and soul must partA

Michelangelo Di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni
