Colui che feceA
-
-
He who ordained when first the world beganB
Time that was not before creation's hourC
Divided it and gave the sun's high powerC
To rule the one the moon the other spanB
Thence fate and changeful chance and fortune's banB
Did in one moment down on mortals showerC
To me they portioned darkness for a dowerD
Dark hath my lot been since I was a manB
Myself am ever mine own counterfeitE
And as deep night grows still more dim and dunF
So still of more misdoing must I rueG
Meanwhile this solace to my soul is sweetH
That my black night doth make more clear the sunF
Which at your birth was given to wait on youG
