The Tree In The Tenement Yard Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

For T A DalyA
-
-
America Ireland and ItalyA
All have known this poor old treeA
-
-
-
A rickety fence goes round the yardB
And the noisy streets stand highC
The grassless ground is brown and hardB
And the cinder pathways lined with shardB
Sees but a bit of skyC
-
Once the yard was fertile and fairD
And lilac bushes nearE
And a Yankee counted with fretful careD
Under the solacing shadows thereD
The gain of every yearE
-
The crowded walls of trade aroseF
And gloomed the avenueG
But a Munster man at each day's closeH
Built in the tree his hope's rainbowsF
And saw his dreams come trueG
-
The years have thickened the darkened airD
But the tree is still on guardB
It comforts the young Italian thereD
Who sees the future blossoming fairD
From the tree in the tenement yardB
-
-
-
America Ireland and ItalyA
All have loved this poor old treeA
