The Time Of Truce Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDBB EEFG EEHH EEII FGEE

Two young lads from childhood upA
Drank together friendship's cupA
Joe was glad with Bill at playB
Bill was home to Joe alwayC
-
On their friendship came the blightD
Of a little thoughtless fightD
Then alas each passing dayB
Farther bore these friends awayB
-
There was grief in either heartE
Bleeding deep from sorrow's dartE
When in thoughtfulness againF
Each beheld the other's painG
-
But the shades of night are furledE
When the morning takes the worldE
And the Christmas days of peaceH
Make our little quarrels ceaseH
-
Bill and Joe on Christmas DayE
Met as in the olden wayE
Bill put out his hand to JoeI
It was Christmas Day you knowI
-
Bill and Joe are friends againF
And to them long years remainG
Time may take them far awayE
They keep Christmas every dayE
