The Lifelong War Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABCA DEFDEF

Still goes the strife the anguish does not dieA
Stronger the flesh is grown from earthy yearsB
In siege about my soul that upward peersB
To see and hold its Good The spirit's eyeA
Approves the better things but senses spyA
The passing sweets spurning the present fearsB
And take their moment's prize Ah then hot tearsC
Deluge my soul and contrite moans my cryA
-
Courage my heart bright patience to the endD
Few years remain then goes the warring wallE
Of sensely flesh that men will throw to earthF
So be it so the contrite soul shall wendD
A homeward way unto the Captain's callE
Eternally to know contrition's worthF
