Off To The War Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDEDE FBFBGHGI DCDCJDJD BKBKLMLM

For JackA
-
-
In a little ship and down the bayB
Out to the calling seaC
A young brave lad sailed off todayB
To the one great war went heC
The one long war all men must knowD
Greater than land or goldE
Soul is the prince and flesh the foeD
Of a kingdom Christ will holdE
-
With arms of faith and hope well wroughtF
The brave lad went awayB
And the voice of Christ fills all his thoughtF
Under two hands that prayB
The tender love of a mother's handsG
That guarded all his yearsH
Fitted the armor plate and bandsG
And blessed them with her tearsI
-
-
Older than Rhodes and AscalonD
And the farthest forts of seaC
Is the Master voice that calls him onD
From the hills in GalileeC
From hills where Christ in gentle guiseJ
Called as He calls againD
With His heart of love and His love lit eyesJ
Unto His warrior menD
-
Christ with the brave young lad to dayB
Who goes to the sweet commandK
Strengthen his heart wherever the wayB
Whether he march or standK
And whether he die in a peaceful cellL
Or alone in the lonely nightM
The Cross of Christ shall keep him wellL
And be his death's delightM
