HOLY CROSS MAYA
-
For Major Joseph W O'Connor '-
-
-
Birds are merry and the budsB
Come along with MayA
Lonely is the linden landC
For lads that went todayA
-
What calls the May of songD
But the fair young springE
Heard our boys another tuneF
Sterner voices singE
-
Bugles blew by land and seaG
And the tocsin drumH
See brave hearts go down the hillI
Shouting Hail we comeH
-
From the towers that show the CrossJ
Staunch the Flag waved outK
And the royal Purple shookL
Joyous with the shoutK
-
Heigh ho And a lusty cheerM
Down the linden laneN
The pine grove looked but cannot tellO
If they'll come home againP
-
Few may take the homeward roadQ
When the war is doneR
Where they fall or when they comeH
Hail to the cause they wonR
-
Till the buds and the merry birdsS
Come another MayA
Cross and Flag aloft shall blessT
Brave lads who went todayA
