Alleluia Height Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCCCCDEDFEFGHGIHGIJ JKJLCCMLMNOPPMQRQYea constant through the changeful year | A |
This queenly Height commands our praise | B |
To stand in meek unflinching hardihood | C |
When fortune blows its storm of fright | C |
And work to full effect that good | C |
Resolved in open days of clearer sight | C |
O this is worth | D |
That daily sees the soul | E |
To braver liberties give birth | D |
That heeds not time's annoy | F |
And hears surrounding voices roll | E |
Perennial circumstance of joy | F |
Then come not only when the springtime blows | G |
The old familiar strangeness of its breath | H |
Across the long lain snows | G |
And chants her resurrected songs | I |
About the tombs of death | H |
Nor yet when summer glows | G |
In roseate throngs | I |
And works her plenitude of deeds | J |
By tangled dells and waving meads | J |
Come here in beauty's pilgrimage | K |
Nor when the autumn reads | J |
Illuminate her page | L |
With tints of magicry besprent | C |
Of iridescent wonderment | C |
As scrolls in old monastic towers | M |
Done in an earnest far off age | L |
But choose to come in winter hours | M |
To see how character can live | N |
How noble character will give | O |
Through desolate distress | P |
And cold neglect's duress | P |
The fulness of its powers | M |
And win the soul its victor sign | Q |
Yea come when in a peasant gown | R |
Amid the ample banners of the pine | Q |
