Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFG HIJIKLM ENONPNPQ RRSO TCLM ENONPNPQ

The free bird leapsA
on the back of the windB
and floats downstreamC
till the current endsD
and dips his wingsE
in the orange sun raysF
and dares to claim the skyG
-
But a bird that stalksH
down his narrow cageI
can seldom see throughJ
his bars of rageI
his wings are clipped andK
his feet are tiedL
so he opens his throat to singM
-
The caged bird singsE
with fearful trillN
of the things unknownO
but longed for stillN
and his tune is heardP
on the distant hillN
for the caged birdP
sings of freedomQ
-
The free bird thinks of another breezeR
and the trade winds soft through the sighing treesR
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawnS
and he names the sky his ownO
-
But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreamsT
his shadow shouts on a nightmare screamC
his wings are clipped and his feet are tiedL
so he opens his throat to singM
-
The caged bird singsE
with a fearful trillN
of things unknownO
but longed for stillN
and his tune is heardP
on the distant hillN
for the caged birdP
sings of freedomQ

Catherine lee: I first heard of this poem after my first visit with my homeopathiest.. l welcomed it with open arms and open mind, how'evr l felt a great sorrow of her analogy known it to be true at the time...where she see me as a bird with my wings clipped and feet tied, 'but l kept singing and She heard my voice'
"For the caged bird sings of freedom "
Kenneth R.Jenkins: Ms Angelou as always present raises her voice through words that she could be heard; loud and clear. She may not with us but her voice through words lingering on and on.
Favour: It reminds me of the time when blacks like me were slaves....................
