The Child In Me Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCB DEFEGGE HIHIJJI EKEKLLK

She follows me about my House of LifeA
This happy little ghost of my dead YouthB
She has no part in Time's relentless strifeA
She keeps her old simplicity and truthB
And laughs at grim MortalityC
This deathless Child that stays with meC
This happy little ghost of my dead YouthB
-
My House of Life is weather stained with yearsD
O Child in Me I wonder why you stayE
Its windows are bedimmed with rain of tearsF
The walls have lost their rose its thatch is grayE
One after one its guests departG
So dull a host is my old heartG
O Child in Me I wonder why you stayE
-
For jealous Age whose face I would forgetH
Pulls the bright flowers you bring me from my hairI
And powders it with snow and yet and yetH
I love your dancing feet and jocund airI
I have no taste for caps of laceJ
To tie about my faded faceJ
I love to wear your flowers in my hairI
-
O Child in Me leave not my House of ClayE
Until we pass together through the DoorK
When lights are out and Life has gone awayE
And we depart to come again no moreK
We comrades who have travelled farL
Will hail the Twilight and the StarL
And smiling pass together through the DoorK
