Absence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBCABBA DEFEGD| When she had left us but a little while | A |
| Methought I sensed her spirit here and there | B |
| About my house upon the empty stair | B |
| Her robe brusht softly o'er her chamber still | C |
| There lay her fragrant presence to beguile | A |
| Numb heart dead heart I knelt before her chair | B |
| And praying felt her hand laid on my hair | B |
| Felt her sweet breath and guess'd her wistful smile | A |
| - | |
| Then thro' my tears I lookt about the room | D |
| But she was gone I heard my heart beat fast | E |
| The street was silent I could not see her now | F |
| Sorrow and I took up our load and past | E |
| To where our station was with heads bent low | G |
| And autumn's death moan shiver'd thro' the gloom | D |
