Where The Pelican Builds Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDECE FGEGHEEE IDJDEEEE

The horses were ready the rails were downA
nbsp nbsp nbsp But the riders lingered stillB
nbsp nbsp nbsp One had a parting word to sayC
nbsp nbsp nbsp And one had his pipe to fillB
Then they mounted one with a granted prayerD
nbsp nbsp nbsp And one with a grief unguessedE
nbsp nbsp nbsp We are going they said as they rode awayC
nbsp nbsp nbsp Where the pelican builds her nestE
-
They had told us of pastures wide and greenF
nbsp nbsp nbsp To be sought past the sunset's glowG
nbsp nbsp nbsp Of rifts in the ranges by opal litE
nbsp nbsp nbsp And gold 'neath the river's flowG
And thirst and hunger were banished wordsH
nbsp nbsp nbsp When they spoke of that unknown WestE
nbsp nbsp nbsp No drought they dreaded no flood they fearedE
nbsp nbsp nbsp Where the pelican builds her nestE
-
The creek at the ford was but fetlock deepI
nbsp nbsp nbsp When we watched them crossing thereD
nbsp nbsp nbsp The rains have replenished it thrice since thenJ
nbsp nbsp nbsp And thrice has the rock lain bareD
But the waters of Hope have flowed and fledE
nbsp nbsp nbsp And never from blue hill's breastE
nbsp nbsp nbsp Come back by the sun and the sands devouredE
nbsp nbsp nbsp Where the pelican builds her nestE
