Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDDD EFEF DDDD GHGH| Into Thy hands let me fall O Lord | A |
| Not into the hands of men | B |
| And she thinned the ranks of the savage horde | A |
| Till they shrank to the mangrove fen | B |
| - | |
| In a rudderless boat with a scanty store | C |
| Of food for the fated three | D |
| With her babe and her stricken servitor | D |
| She fled to the open sea | D |
| - | |
| Oh days of dolor and nights of drouth | E |
| While she watched for a sail in vain | F |
| Or the tawny tinge of a river mouth | E |
| Or the rush of the tropic rain | F |
| - | |
| The valiant woman Her feeble oar | D |
| Sufficed and her fervent prayer | D |
| Was heard though she reached but a barren shore | D |
| And died with her darling there | D |
| - | |
| For the demons of murder and foul disgrace | G |
| On her hearthstone dared not light | H |
| But the Angel of Womanhood held the place | G |
| And its site is a holy site | H |
