The Belated Swallow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCDDDD EEFBBBF GGBGGGB EEGEEEG

And the birds of the air have nestsA
-
Belated swallow whither flyingB
The day is dead the light is dyingB
The night draws nearC
Where is thy nest slow put togetherD
Soft lined with moss and downy featherD
For shelter place in stress of weatherD
And darkness drearD
-
Past past above the lighted cityE
Unknowing of my wondering pityE
Seaward she fliesF
Alas poor bird what rude awakingB
Has driven thee forth when storms are breakingB
And frightened gulls the waves forsakingB
With warning criesF
-
Alas my soul while leaves are greenestG
Thy heedless head thou fondly screenestG
Beneath thy wingB
How bravely thou thy plumage wearestG
How lightly thou life's burthen bearestG
How happily thy home preparestG
In careless springB
-
Yet Destiny the hour may bring theeE
When none of all that sing can sing theeE
To joy or restG
When all the winds that blow shall blow theeE
And ere the floods shall overflow theeE
The sunlight linger but to show theeE
Thy shattered nestG
