Rhyme Scheme: A BCBD EFEG HIHI JKJK LMLM NONO PQPQ

He who would write heroic poems must make his whole life a heroic poem MILTONA
-
-
There came a voice from the realm of thoughtB
And my spirit bowed to hearC
A voice with majestic sadness fraughtB
By the grace of God most clearD
-
A mighty tone from the solemn PastE
Outliving the Poet lyreF
Borne down on the rush of Time's fitful blastE
Like the cloven tongues of fireG
-
Wouldst thou fashion the song O Poet heartH
For a mission high and freeI
The drama of Life in its every partH
Must a living poem beI
-
Wouldst thou speed the knight to the battle fieldJ
In a proven suit of mailK
On the world's highway with Faith's broad shieldJ
The peril go forth to hailK
-
For the noble soul there is noble strifeL
And the sons of earth attainM
Through the wild turmoil and storm of LifeL
To discipline through painM
-
Think not that Poesy liveth aloneN
In the flow of measured rhymeO
The noble deed with a mightier toneN
Shall sound through latest timeO
-
Then poems two at each upward flightP
In glorious measure fillQ
Be the Poem in words one of beauty and mightP
But the Life one loftier stillQ
