Song Of The New Year Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGG HHIIJJKKLLMM KKNNAAHHOO

As the bright flowers start from their wintry tombA
I've sprung from the depths of futurity's gloomA
With the glory of Hope on my unshadowed browB
But a fear at my heart earth welcomes me nowB
I come and bear with me a measureless flowC
Of infinite joy and of infinite woeC
The banquet's light jest and the penitent prayerD
The sweet laugh of gladness the wail of despairD
The warm words of welcome and broken farewellE
The strains of rich music the funeral knellE
The fair bridal wreath and the robe for the deadF
O how will they meet in the path I shall treadF
O how will they mingle where'er I pass byG
As sunshine and storm in the rainbow on highG
-
Yet start not nor shrink from the race I must runH
I've peace and repose for the heart stricken oneH
And strength for the weary who fail in the strifeI
And falter before the great warfare of LifeI
I've love for the friendless a morrow of lightJ
For him who is wrapped in adversity's nightJ
With trust for the doubting a field for the soulK
That has dared from its loftier purpose to strollK
To haste to the conflict and blot out the shameL
With the deeds of repentance and resolute aimL
To seek 'mid the struggle with tempters and sinM
The high meed of virtue triumphant to winM
-
Unsullied and pure is the future's broad scrollK
And as leaf after leaf from its folds shall unrollK
The warp and the woof they are woven by meN
But the shadows and coloring rest mortal with theeN
'T is thine to cast over those leaves as they bloomA
The sunlight of morning or hues of the tombA
Though moments of sorrow to all must be givenH
There 's a vista of light that leads up to heavenH
Nor utterly starless the path thou hast trodO
Till thy heart prove a traitor to thee or to GodO
