The Little Sister Of The Prophet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBCDDEE F FGHBI JJII K LLDBBLDMM

'If there arise among you a prophet or dreamer 'A
I HAVE left a basket of datesB
In the cool dark room that is under the vineC
Some curds set out in two little crimson platesB
And a flask of the amber wineC
And cakes most cunningly beatenD
Of savoury herbs and spice and the delicate wheatenD
Flour that is bestE
And all to lighten his spirit and sweeten his restE
-
This morning he cried 'AwakeF
And see what the wonderful grace of the Lord hath revealed '-
And we ran for his sakeF
But 'twas only the dawn outspread o'er our father's fieldG
And the house of the potter white in the valley belowH
But his hands were upraised to the east and he cried to us 'SoB
Ye may ponder and readI
The strength and the beauty of God outrolled in a fiery screed '-
-
Then the little brown mother smiledJ
As one does on the words of a well loved childJ
And 'Son ' she replied 'have the oxen been watered and fedI
For work is to do though the skies be never so redI
And already the first sweet hours of the day are spent '-
And he sighed and wentK
-
Will he come from the byreL
With his head all misty with dreams and his eyes on fireL
Shaking us all with the weight of the words of his passionD
I will give him raisins instead of datesB
And wreathe young leaves on the little red platesB
I will put on my new head tyreL
And braid my hair in a comelier fashionD
Will he note Will he mindM
Will he touch my cheek as he used to and laugh and be kindM
