My Father He Was A Fisherman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB C CD E EF G GD H HI

MY father he was a fishermanA
That wrought at the break o' dayB
And hither and thither the long tides ranA
I' the long blue bayB
-
'The tides go up and the tides go downC
But what do you know of the sea '-
Her voice i' the long gray streets o' the townC
Is singing to meD
-
'What do you know of the sails at dawnE
What of the shell white foam '-
Cheerly and sweet from a world withdrawnE
They are calling me homeF
-
'What is the grief you fain would tellG
When your eyes are turned on me '-
O well it was taught and I learned it wellG
The grief o' the seaD
-
'Where do you travel and where do you sleepH
Where shall you take your rest '-
At the inn that shelters my father deepH
I' the seas o' the westI
