Deus Misereatur Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGF HIHI

PLEASANT the ways whereon our feet were ledA
Sweet the young hills the valleys of contentB
But now the hours of dew and dream have fledA
Lord we are spentB
-
We did not heed Thy warning in the skiesC
We have not heard Thy voice nor known Thy foldD
But now the world is darkening to our eyesC
Lord we grow oldD
-
Now the sweet stream turns bitter with our tearsE
Now dies the star we followed in the westF
Now are we sad and ill at ease with yearsG
Lord we would restF
-
Lo our proud lamps are emptied of their lightH
Weary our hands to toil our feet to roamI
Our day is past and swiftly falls Thy nightH
Lord lead us homeI
