Twilight Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEB FBGDHD DIAIJI KLMLNL NOPONO QRERNR

Draped in shadows stands the mountainA
Against the eastern skyB
Above it the fair summer moonC
Looks downward tenderlyD
And Venus in the glowing westE
Opens her languid eyeB
-
Now the winds breathe softer musicF
Half a song and half a sighB
While twilight wraps her purple veilG
Around us silentlyD
And our thoughts appear like picturesH
Pictures shaded wondrouslyD
-
Quiet landscapes sweet and lonelyD
Silvery sea and shadowy gladeI
Forest lakes by man forsakenA
Where the white fawn's steps are stayedI
And contadinos strayingJ
'Neath the Pantheon's solemn shadeI
-
And we see the wave bridged overK
By the moonlight's mystic linkL
Desert wells by tall palms shadedM
Where dusky camels drinkL
While dark eyed Arab maidensN
Fill their pitchers at the brinkL
-
And secluded convent chapelsN
Where veiled nuns kneel to prayO
With a dim light streaming o'er themP
Through arches quaint and grayO
While down the long and winding aislesN
Low music dies awayO
-
There is a starry twilightQ
Of the soul as sadly fairR
When our wild emotions are at restE
Like the pale nuns at prayerR
And our griefs are hushed like sleepersN
And put off the robes of careR
