Put the crown of your love on my foreheadA
Its sweet links clasped with a kissB
And all the great monarchs of EnglandC
Never wore such a gem as thisB
Give me your hand little maidenD
That sceptre so pearly whiteE
And I'll envy not the kingliest wandF
That ever waved in mightE
-
I know 'tis like asking a morning cloudG
With a grim old mountain to stayH
But your love would soften its ruggednessB
And melt its roughness awayH
I have seen a delicate rosy cloudG
A rough gray cliff enfoldI
Till his heart was warmed by its lovelinessB
And his brow was tinged with its goldI
-
Oh poor and mean does my life showJ
Compared with the beauty of thineK
Like a diamond embedded in graniteL
Your life would be set in mineK
But a faithful love should guard youM
And shelter you from life's stormN
The rock must be shivered to atomsB
Ere its treasure should come to harmO
-
How your sweet face has shone on meP
From the tropics' midnight seaP
When the sailors slept and I kept watchQ
Alone with my God and theeP
I know your heart is relentingR
The tender look in your eyesB
Seems like that sky's soft splendorS
When the sun was beginning to riseB
-
You need not veil their glorious lightE
With your eyelids' cloud of snowJ
A tell tale bird with a crimson wingR
On your cheek flies to and froJ
And whispers to me such blissful hopeT
That my foolish tears will startU
Ah little bird your fluttering wingR
Is folded on my heartU
