The Flight Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGAHIBIB HJKJDLDL BCBCDLDL DAAAAMAM

Here in the silent doorway let me lingerA
One moment for the porch is still and lonelyB
That shadow's but the rose vine in the moonlightC
All are asleep in peace I waken onlyB
And he I wait by my own heart's beatingD
I know how slow to him the tide creeps byE
Nor life nor death could bar our hearts from meetingD
Were worlds between his soul to mine would flyE
-
Oh shame to think a heap of paltry metalF
Should overbalance manhood's noblest gracesG
A film of gold had gilt his worth and honorA
Warming to smiles the coldness of their facesH
Gentle to me they rise in condemnationI
And plead with me than words more powerfullyB
Oh well I love them but they have wealth and stationI
To fill their hearts and he has only meB
-
But oh my roses how their great pure facesH
Beseech me as they bend from sculptured columnJ
So with my wet cheek closely pressed against themK
I listen to their pleadings sweet and solemnJ
Oh Memory if an hour of gloom and grievingD
I here have known that hour before me setL
But all the peace and joy I am leavingD
In mercy Memory let me forgetL
-
Oh home if here a frown has ever chilled meB
Let it now rise and darken on my sightC
If a harsh word or look has ever grieved meB
Let me remember that harsh word to nightC
But all the tender words the fond caressingD
The loving smiles that daily I have metL
The patient mother love God's crowning blessingD
In mercy Memory let me forgetL
-
Here she has kissed me with fond looks of greetingD
Will that smile fade when waiting me no longerA
Oh true first love tender and changing neverA
But there's a love that nearer is and strongerA
He comes I kneel and kiss the stone oh motherA
Where you have stood and blessed me with your eyesM
Forgive forgive me mother father brotherA
For oh he loves me and love sanctifiesM
