Our Bird Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFG HIJIKLML

She lay asleep and her face shone whiteA
As under a snowy veilB
And the waxen hands clasped on her breastC
Were full of snowdrops paleB
But a holy calm touched the baby lipsD
The brow and the sleeping eyesE
The look of an angel pitying usF
From the peace of ParadiseG
-
And now though she lies 'neath the coffin lidH
We cannot think her deadI
But we think of her as of some delicate birdJ
To a milder country fledI
'Twas a long dark flight for our gentle doveK
Our bird so tender and fairL
But we know she has reached the summer landM
And folded her white wings thereL
