Last night she came unto me	A
And kneeling by my side	B
Laid her head upon my bosom	C
My beautiful my bride	B
My lost one with her soft dark eyes	D
And waves of sunny hair	E
I smoothed the shining tresses	F
With tearful fond caresses	F
And words of thankful prayer	E

And then a thrill of doubt and pain	G
My jealous heart swept o'er	H
We were parted she was dwelling	I
Upon a far off shore	J
Yet He who made my sad heart knew	K
I loved her more and more	J
My love more true and perfect grew	K
As each dark day passed o'er	H
But she whose heart had been my own	L
Who loved me tenderly	A
Whose last low words I knelt to hear	M
Were How can I leave thee	A

And Death would seem as sweet as life	N
Could we together be	A
Now though we two were parted	O
By such a distance wide	B
By such a strange and viewless realm	P
By such a boundless tide	B
Her gentle face was radiant	Q
With a surpassing bliss	R
She was happier in that distant land	S
Than she ever was in this	R
And in some other tenderness	T
Some other love divine	U
She had found a peace and happiness	T
She never found in mine	U

So with a tender chiding	I
I could not quite suppress	V
Though well my darling knew	K
I would not make her pleasures less	V
Are you happy love I said	W
Are you happy love without me	A
Then she raised her gentle head	W
And twined her arms about me	A
Yet while my tears fell faster	H
Beneath her mute caress	V
Her face had all the glory	A
Of a sainted soul at rest	X
And her voice was sweet as music	Y
I am happy I am blest	X

Do you know how lonely hearted	O
I have been each weary day	Z
Praying that each passing hour	H
Would bear my life away	Z
That we might be united	O
Upon that distant shore	J

Then while her face grew brighter	H
As with a heavenly glow	C2
In tenderness unspeakable	D2
She kissed my lips and brow	E2
Then I lost her then she left me	A
As at the set of day	Z
The snowy clouds float outward	F2
And melt in light away	Z
I heard low strains of melody	A
No earthly choir could sing	I
A light breath floated past me	A
As from a gliding wing	I
And on my darkened spirit	G2
There fell so bright a gleam	H2
I knew the blessed vision	I2
Was not in truth a dream	H2
Though death had won from my embrace	J2
My beautiful my bride	B
I had won a richer treasure	H
An angel by my side	B

The Father careth for us all	K2
In pity and I know	C2
My love is not forever gone	L2
From him who loved her so	C2
When a few more days have drifted	O
Their shadows over me	A
When the golden gates are lifted	O
My angel I shall see	A
Her veiled face in its glory	A
Upon my gaze will rise	D
And Heaven will shine upon me	A
Through the sweetness of her eyes	D
