Good-by Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEECC FFGGCC BBHHCC IIJJCC

Again I see that May moon shineA
Dost thou remember soul of mineA
I held your hand in mine you knowB
And as I bent to whisper lowB
A tender light was in your eyeC
Sweetheart good by sweetheart good byC
-
There came a time my lips were whiteD
Beneath the pale and cold moonlightD
And burning words I might not speakE
You read love in my ashen cheekE
As my whole heart breathed in this one cryC
Sweetheart good by sweetheart good byC
-
Time's waves that roll so swift and fleetF
Have borne you far from me my sweetF
Have borne you to a sunny bayG
Where brightest sunshine gilds your wayG
Do these words ever dim your skyC
Sweetheart good by sweetheart good byC
-
I cannot tell but this I knowB
They go with me where'er I goB
I hear them in the crowded martH
At midnight lone they chill my heartH
They dim for me the earth and skyC
Sweetheart good by sweetheart good byC
-
And in that hour of mysteryI
When loved ones shall bend over meI
Near ones to kiss my lips and weepJ
As nearer steals the dreamless sleepJ
From all I'll turn with this last sighC
Sweetheart good by sweetheart good byC
