What Are Years Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHHIJIKLIIMMNO NPMIQII

What is our innocenceA
what is our guilt All areB
naked none is safe And whenceC
is courage the unanswered questionD
the resolute doubtE
dumbly calling deafly listening thatF
in misfortune even deathG
encourage othersH
and in its defeat stirsH
the soul to be strong HeI
sees deep and is glad whoJ
accedes to mortalityI
and in his imprisonment risesK
upon himself asL
the sea in a chasm struggling to beI
free and unable to beI
in its surrenderingM
finds its continuingM
So he who strongly feelsN
behaves The very birdO
grown taller as he sings steelsN
his form straight up Though he is captiveP
his mighty singingM
says satisfaction is a lowlyI
thing how pure a thing is joyQ
This is mortalityI
this is eternityI
