maker of it guards itH
day and night she scarcelyI

Buried eight fold in her eightK
arms for she is inL
a sense a devilF
fish her glass ram'shorn cradled freightK
is hid but is not crushedM
as Hercules bittenN

by a crab loyal to the hydraO
was hindered to succeedP
the intensivelyI
watched eggs coming fromQ
the shell free it when they are freedP
leaving its wasp nest flawsR
of white on white and closeS

laid Ionic chiton foldsT
like the lines in the mane ofU
a Parthenon horseV
round which the arms hadW
wound themselves as if they knew loveU
is the only fortressD
strong enough to trust toX
