On The Death Of A Lady Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEFE GCGC CHCH IIIJ K

Thy home seemed not of earth so blestA
But there has fall'n a shaft of fateB
The dove is stricken and the nestA
She warmed and cheered is desolateC
-
But fairest not for thee we mournD
Blest from thy birth thou still art soE
The tear must dew thine early urnF
For him whom thou hast taught to knowE
-
The zest of joys complete as knowsG
Thy vital flame the pang that tostC
And changed thee past where now it glowsG
Knowing yet feeling all is lostC
-
There is a flower of tender whiteC
And on its spotless bosom playH
The moon's soft beams one lovely nightC
But when appears the morning rayH
-
'Tis shut and withered even nowI
Around your lime I see it wave FNI
'Tis pure and fresh and fair as thouI
And sinks in beauty to its graveJ
-
-
FN The white convolvulus it blossoms just after sun set and is seen in great abundance entwining the lime hedges about the plantations of CubaK
