Dear when I went with youA
To where the town endsB
Simple things that Christ lovedC
They were our friendsB
Tree shade and grass bladeD
And meadows in flowerE
Sun sparkle dew glistenF
Star glow and showerE
Cool flowing song at nightG
Where the river bendsB
And the shingle croons a tuneH
These were our friendsB
-
Under us the brown earthI
Ancient and strongJ
The best bed for wanderersK
All the night longJ
Over us the blue skyL
Ancient and dearM
The best roof to shelter allN
Glad wanderers hereO
And racing between them thereP
Falls and ascendsB
The chantey of the clean windsQ
These were our friendsB
-
By day on the broad roadR
Or on the narrow trailS
Angel wings shadowed usT
Glimmering paleS
Through the red heat of noonH
In the twilight of dawnU
Fairies broke fast with usT
Prophets led us onV
Heroes were kind to usT
Day after happy dayW
Many white MadonnasT
We met on our wayW
Farmer and longshoremanV
Fisherman and wifeX
Children and laborersT
Brave enough for LifeX
Simple folk that Christ lovedC
They were our friendsT
-
Dear we must go againV
To where the town endsT
