The Putto Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCAA DDEE FFGG HHDD AAII

No child no mortal child am IA
No angel from the blue on highA
And though I gayly dance and shoutB
No Cupid from a Bacchic routB
-
But I am all young innocenceC
So young I do not know offenceC
So very young I think that IA
Will catch that bird that butterflyA
-
Madonna Lady Queen of HeavenD
Or Mother whose red wounds are sevenD
Or waiting Virgin mild and fairE
See I will hide behind thy chairE
-
And round thy pulpit friar grayF
Lo I will frolic all the dayF
My ways perchance are not divineG
But cannot hurt thee no nor thineG
-
And thou little darling ChristH
'Tis long ere thou be sacrificedH
Do beckon me thou pretty OneD
And we will sing and laugh and runD
-
And at the last why then will IA
The earthly darkness beautifyA
Dead Son upon thy mother's kneeI
While Heaven weeps blood I garland theeI
