| In unexplor egrave d realms of night to hide | B |
| The clouds that strew their shadows far and wide | B |
| Are all of Heaven that visits Helicon | C |
| Yet here where never muse or god did haunt | D |
| Still may some nameless power of Nature stray | E |
| Pleased with the reedy stream's continual chant | F |
| And purple pomp of these broad fields in May | E |
| The shepherds meet him where he herds the kine | C |
| And careless pass him by whose is the gift divine | C |
