The Rest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFFGHIIJIKLMGIII

The rest of us watch from beyond the fenceA
as the woman moves with her jagged strideB
into her pain as if into a slow raceC
We see her body in motionD
but hear no sounds or we hearE
sounds but no language or we knowF
it is not a language we knowF
yet We can see her clearlyG
but for her it is running in black smokeH
The cluster of cells in her swellingI
like porridge boiling and burstingI
like grapes we think Or we think ofJ
explosions in mud but we know nothingI
All around us the treesK
and the grasses light up with forgivenessL
so green and at this timeM
of the year healthyG
We would like to call somethingI
out to her Some form of cheeringI
There is pain but no arrival at anythingI
