Night Poem Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE DFGHIJK LMNOPQRSQ QTUDUCVJD

There is nothing to be afraid ofA
it is only the windB
changing to the east it is onlyC
your father the thunderD
your mother the rainE
-
In this country of waterD
with its beige moon damp as a mushroomF
its drowned stumps and long birdsG
that swim where the moss growsH
on all sides of the treesI
and your shadow is not your shadowJ
but your reflectionK
-
your true parents disappearL
when the curtain covers your doorM
We are the othersN
the ones from under the lakeO
who stand silently beside your bedP
with our heads of darknessQ
We have come to cover youR
with red woolS
with our tears and distant whipersQ
-
You rock in the rain's armsQ
the chilly ark of your sleepT
while we wait your nightU
father and motherD
with our cold hands and dead flashlightU
knowing we are onlyC
the wavering shadows thrownV
by one candle in this echoJ
you will hear twenty years laterD
